Trivante Stewart Inspires Mount Pleasant to Historic Victory, Securing First Ever Spot in Jamaica Premier League Final

In a thrilling encounter on Sunday at Sabina Park, Trivante Stewart’s incredible performance propelled Mount Pleasant to a resounding 3-1 triumph over Arnett Gardens in the second-leg semi-final of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).

This monumental win not only secured a 5-3 aggregate victory over the two legs but also marked Mount Pleasant’s first-ever appearance in a national final.

Stewart showcased his brilliance by finding the back of the net twice, overturning a one-goal deficit and giving his team a commanding 2-1 lead at halftime.

Arnett Gardens had initially taken the lead through Deandre Cunningham’s strike in the 15th minute. However, Stewart’s clinical finishes in the 33rd and 40th minutes turned the tide in Mount Pleasant’s favor. The ecstatic supporters erupted in jubilation when Shandee James sealed the victory with an 86th minute goal.

Reflecting on his outstanding performance, Stewart expressed his delight at leading Mount Pleasant to their maiden final and bringing joy to the people of St Ann. Eagerly anticipating the final, he called upon the community to rally behind the team and provide the much-needed support.

Not only did Stewart’s heroics secure his team’s historic achievement, but they also propelled him to the top of the league’s scoring charts, surpassing Collin Anderson of Cavalier with an impressive tally of 18 goals. Stewart attributed his success to his relentless commitment in training, acknowledging the importance of his contributions to the team and expressing gratitude towards his community, friends, and family.

Mount Pleasant’s head coach, Whitmore, showered praise on the towering striker, commending his hard work, exemplary attitude, and unsurprising display of talent. He expressed his immense satisfaction in leading the team to their long-awaited final, highlighting the character displayed by the players in bouncing back from an early setback.

In contrast, Arnett Gardens’ coach, Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis, admitted that their plans to contain Stewart had faltered, making their task considerably more challenging. Davis acknowledged Stewart’s brilliance, emphasising the need to execute their defensive strategies more effectively. He lamented the team’s failure to perform as intended, pointing out their lack of urgency, failure to close down the midfield, and affording Mount Pleasant excessive space.

The match had a vibrant start, and Arnett Gardens took an early lead when Cunningham expertly finished from an angle, capitalising on a well-constructed buildup in the 15th minute. However, Stewart swiftly restored parity in the 31st minute, displaying his prowess inside the 18-yard box with a precisely placed shot that eluded the goalkeeper. The prolific striker then seized the opportunity once again, unleashing a stunning strike just before halftime to give Mount Pleasant a well-deserved advantage.

Although Devonte Campbell had an excellent chance to extend Mount Pleasant’s lead, he unfortunately failed to convert from 12 yards out. Nevertheless, Shandee James ensured victory for his side by adding another exceptional goal from just inside the box, sealing the win four minutes before the final whistle.

Mount Pleasant’s triumph, fueled by Trivante Stewart’s brilliance, has etched a remarkable chapter in the team’s history. With their sights set on the upcoming final, the players and coaching staff eagerly await the support of their devoted fans and the opportunity to clinch the coveted title.
