Scottish Giants Rangers Set Sights on Reggae Boy Jonson Clarke-Harris

Rangers, the Scottish football giants, are reportedly leading the race to sign highly sought-after striker Jonson Clarke-Harris from Peterborough.

The 28-year-old who made his international debut for Jamaica last May has been listed as one of nine players to be off-loaded by Peterborough during the summer transfer window.

With the departure of Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe struggling with fitness issues, Rangers are in need of a new frontman to strengthen their attacking options.

Rangers finished second in the previous season, falling seven points behind champions Celtic. In their pursuit of the title, they recognise the importance of bolstering their squad with a prolific striker like Clarke-Harris.

Bristol Rovers, the club that sold Clarke-Harris to Peterborough for an initial fee of £1.25 million two years ago, is also considering the possibility of reacquiring the player. Their manager, Joey Barton, is known to be a strong advocate of Clarke-Harris and sees his return as a significant boost to their squad.

Clarke-Harris had an outstanding season, emerging as the joint-leading scorer in League One. He netted an impressive 27 goals in 48 games, earning him the Golden Boot award. His performances were instrumental in Peterborough’s surge into the playoff semi-finals, including a goal in the first leg against Sheffield Wednesday, where they triumphed with a dominant 4-0 victory at London Road.

Unfortunately, Peterborough suffered a setback in the second leg, losing 5-1 to Wednesday, who eventually progressed to the final after winning 5-3 on penalties. The failure to reach the final prompted Peterborough to assess their finances, leading to the decision to cash in on Clarke-Harris and other players.

Peterborough stated in a release, “The club have made several players available for transfer, some in line with the club’s policy of listing players who are entering the final year of their contract.”

Clarke-Harris has garnered significant attention with his outstanding performances. He is currently valued at around £5 million, reflecting his status as one of the most promising strikers in the market.
