Demarai Gray Switches International Allegiance From England to Jamaica & Shares Heartfelt Message!

Everton winger Demarai Gray  has made a significant decision to switch his international allegiance from England to Jamaica.

Gray, who previously represented England at the youth level, has now been called up to join Jamaica’s squad for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup. He acquired Jamaican citizenship via his maternal grandparents.

Gray’s international journey began with the England Under 21s, where he made 26 appearances under the management of Gareth Southgate from 2016 to 2018. He was even selected to travel to Russia for the 2018 World Cup but did not feature in any matches.

After receiving a Jamaican passport and with interest from Reggae Boyz manager –  Heimir Hallgrimsson, Gray made the decision to make himself available for the Reggae Boyz.

Several Premier League stars, including Michail Antonio of West Ham, have already made the switch to Jamaica, enticed by the opportunity for increased playing time.

He joins the ranks of top-flight English players who have received a call-up for the June tournament, including Brentford’s Ethan Pinnock and Fulham’s Bobby Decordova Reid. Jamaica’s opening matches in the competition will be against Trinidad and Tobago, as well as the United States, who recently secured the CONCACAF Nations League title.

Gray recently shared the following heartfelt message via social media:

“While I am proud of what I’ve achieved in my football career to date, there is still so much I want to do over the years to come. It’s time for a fresh challenge and, in my eyes, there’s nothing more exciting than playing for a team that represents my family roots.

I have always been proud of my Jamaican heritage and joining the national team is a dream come true.

With renewed ambition and exciting plans in the team’s pipeline, it feels like the perfect time to take this next step and I can’t wait to prove myself to the country and earn the right to represent Jamaica! 🇯🇲”

The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT), as co-hosts of the tournament alongside Canada, will be aiming to match Mexico’s record of eight Gold Cup victories. Having won the tournament seven times already, the USMNT will be a strong contender in their pursuit of further success.

In summary, Demarai Gray’s decision to switch his international allegiance from England to Jamaica marks a significant moment in his career. With the CONCACAF Gold Cup approaching, all eyes will be on Gray and his fellow Premier League players as they represent Jamaica in their quest for glory.
