Jamaica’s Khadija “Bunny” Shaw Named Concacaf Women’s Player of the Year

On Friday, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) issued a statement congratulating Khadija “Bunny” Shaw on winning the Concacaf Women’s Player of the Year award.

Shaw, who plays for Manchester City, had an impressive 2022 season, leading Jamaica to their second consecutive World Cup berth and helping her club win silverware in the FA Women’s League Cup.

Shaw is the first Caribbean woman to receive the prestigious award and the first non-US player to win it.

The JFF statement commended Shaw’s hard work, determination, and resilience, highlighting her rapid growth since going professional in 2019.

Shaw is currently the leading scorer in the 2023 Women’s Super League and is Jamaica’s leading goal scorer across genders.

The JFF called her an ambassador for women’s football in Jamaica and expressed hope that her success would inspire young Jamaican female footballers.

Michael Ricketts, President of the JFF, praised Shaw for paving the way for other Jamaican footballers and for demonstrating the qualities that lead to success. The JFF wished her good health and strength as she prepares to lead Jamaica’s national team at the Women’s World Cup.
