“I Almost Cried” – Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce After Being Named Sportswoman of the Year
Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has won the 2022 Laureus Sportswoman of the Year award in Paris.
This is her first win after being nominated six times, and the athlete said she was “really honoured” and “almost cried” upon receiving the award.
Fraser-Pryce’s record-breaking fifth 100m gold at the World Championships in 2022 contributed to her victory, and she hopes that her win will inspire Jamaican girls to believe in themselves and work hard to achieve their dreams.
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness congratulated Fraser-Pryce on Twitter, stating that she is an extraordinary athlete and a true ambassador for Jamaica.
Lionel Messi won the Laureus Sportsman of the Year award for leading Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar and was also part of the Laureus-winning team of the year.
