Reggae Girlz Defeat Dominican Republic 5-1, Book Spot In Final Round Of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers

On Tuesday night (April 12), Jamaica’s senior women’s team booked their spot in the final round of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers after defeating the Dominican Republic 5-1 at Sabina Park.

The result means the Reggae Girlz have topped top group “C”.

Jodi Brown found the back of the net in the 15th minute to give Jamaica the lead, but the Dominican Republic equalised via Kathrynn Gonzales in the 24th minute.

Midfielder Trudi Carter restored Jamaica’s lead just prior to the half time break and Tiffany Cameron extended that lead in the 60th minute.

  

Captain Khadija “Bunny” Shaw then added her name to the scoresheet in minute 79 before adding another to complete the thrashing in stoppage time.

The CONCACAF Championship is slated to run betweeb July 4 – 8 with 8 teams to contest that round. T

he top two teams from each group of 4 to advance to next year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, while the two third place teams will contest an inter-confed playoff for another World Cup spot.
