Cruise Ship With Sick Crew Member Denied Docking At Ocho Rios Port

A crew member on a cruise ship which was scheduled to dock at the Ocho Rios port earlier today has been placed in isolation amid global Coronavirus fears.

The vessel – an MSC Meraviglia was also ordered to remain at sea.

The ill crew member who is Filipino had been in Manila recently and had a high fever.

The measure to isolate the passenger is in keeping with directives by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Health officials reportedly boarded the vessel and were informed that someone aboard was ill and had been isolated.

Passengers on the vessel will not be allowed to disembark in Ocho Rios or any other port on the island.

Official figures currently show that over 80,000 people have been infected by the novel Coronavirus globally and at least 2700 persons have died as a result of the virus.

So far no one has tested positive for the virus in Jamaica.
