Bolt To Finally Play For Manchester United In ‘Legends’ Game Against Barcelona
Usain Bolt is about to fulfil yet another dream, well sort of.
The eight-time Olympic gold medallist is an avid supporter of the English top tier club – Manchester United and has on several occasions publicly expressed his immense desire to play football professionally for the team.
In fact, in a 2015 interview with MUTV, Bolt revealed that he once discussed playing for the team with former club boss Sir Alex Ferguson stating:
“In my mind I think I should do a trial and see if they would say ‘Alright, come on in’ or if they would say ‘No, you are not any good’. I think I would be pretty good because I am fit, I am quick, I can control the ball and I understand all the play.
“So I think if I do a trial then they would say, ‘You know what, here is a contract for five years! You are 30 years old, here’s a five-year contract. Let’s just do it!’”
And Bolt will finally get to don the Manchester Jersey in just a few weeks.
According to The Sun, Bolt has signed for Manchester United to play a charity match against Barcelona on September 2.
But he will be racing against the clock to achieve optimal fitness ahead of the game having recently suffered a hamstring injury in the final of the men’s 4×100 relay at the World Championships.
United’s lineup is also expected to include the likes of Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes, Dwight Yorke and Phil Neville.
