Bolt Nominated For Coveted ESPY Award

Jamaica’s Usain Bolt has been nominated to receive the coveted ESPY Best International Athlete award.

An ESPY Award (short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award) is an accolade currently presented by the American broadcast television network ABC, and previously ESPN, to recognise individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance during the calendar year preceding a given annual ceremony.

Bolt has been nominated alongside Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, boxer Canelo Alvarez, swimmer Katinka Hosszu and mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor.

Bolt previously won the Best International Male Athlete award in 2009 and in 2013, and in 2010 was named the Best Track and Field Athlete in 2010.

Awards conferred at the ESPY Awards ceremony reflect performance and achievement over the twelve months previous to presentation, which may span one or two seasons depending upon the recipient’s particular sport.

The 2017 ESPY Awards will be held on July 12.
