A Generous Donation! Powell Gives Hospital $500,000

Powell Makes BIG Donation

Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell will be making a substantial donation to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) today.

Through the Asafa Powell Foundation (APF), the former world’s fastest man will gift the hospital over $500,000.

Powell launched the the #SpreadABed4KPH fundraising campaign two years ago after visiting someone close to him at the hospital.

The initiative’s goal was to source the necessary funds to purchase bed sheets for the Kingston Public Hospital.

“Someone close to me fell victim to violence recently and was taken to the hospital [KPH] for treatment. While the medical staff at the hospital provided the best possible care, they did so under conditions that I couldn’t believe. The lack of equipment and resources are heart-breaking,” said Powell in 2014.
