Massive Flooding in Section of Kingston

On Friday afternoon (September 9), Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston was reportedly inundated with water as a result of severe flooding believed to be caused by blocked drains.

There were several reports of persons being unable to leave buildings and motorists being stranded.

According to The Star, employees of the Wallenford Coffee Company sought refuge on the upper floor and stairway of the building, as the ground floor was filled with water.

Stephen Shaw, Communications Manager at the National Works Agency has now stated that a pile up of garbage contributed to the flooding along Marcus Garvey Drive where road work is currently taking place.
