Rio Games Schedule For Jamaica – August 16

On Monday (August 15), Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson won a bronze medal in the women’s 400m final.

Jackson crossed the finish line in 49.85s behind gold medal winner Shaunae Miller (49.44, a new personal best) of the Bahamas and silver medallist Allyson Felix of the United States, who finished with a season best of 49.51.

Two Jamaican athletes also earned a spot in the women’s 200m semi-finals.

Simone Facey, running in heat three was second in her heat while Elaine Thompson (22.63s) restrained herself to do just enough to earn the second automatic qualifying spot.

  

Hurdler Deuce Carter won his 110m run (13.51) to advance to the semi-finals. Omar McLeod easily won his 110m run in 13,27s.

Yona Knight-Wisdom also earned a spot in the Men’s 3M Springboard semi-finals after scoring a total of 416.55 points during his qualifying rounds. 

Today, the world’s fastest man – Usain Bolt will once again grace the track to compete in the 200m heats. Bolt recently stated:

“I’m always confident going into the 200 meters,” said Bolt, who surged past American Justin Gatlin to win the 100 on Sunday.

“I think the 100 metres is always the hardest one for me. Going to the 200 now, I’m very confident.”
