Michael Johnson Claims He Could Beat Bolt Everyday As a Younger Athlete

Retired American sprinter Michael Johnson is confident that a younger version of himself could defeat the world’s fastest man, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt.

During a recent interview with NBC’s Today, the former world’s fastest man and four time Olympic gold medallist was asked: “Usain Bolt….Michael Johnson – If you could turn back the clock, who would win?”

His response: ” I win that race everyday. Every time we line up I win that race…Guaranteed,” which a cheerful smile.

Johnson is probably assuming he could surpass Bolt if he was privy to the more modern training techniques athletes enjoy today, but even if this is the case, that’s an awful lot of confidence from Johnon, considering Bolt’s 100m world record (9.58 seconds) is eons away from the second fastest recorded time (9.69 seconds) over said distance.

Additionally, Johnson’s fastest ever legal 100m time is 10.09 seconds.

Bolt is currently rehabbing from a hamstring injury that forced him to withdraw from the national Olympic trials.

The world record holder will be aiming to successfully defend his 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay titles at the upcoming Olympic games in Rio later this year.
