Nesta Carter Reportedly Fails Beijing Drug Retest

Jamaican sprinter Nesta Carter has reportedly been named as one of the athletes who retrospectively failed a drug test at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Two weeks ago the International Olympic Committee (IOC) disclosed that 31 athletes who competed at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 had tested positive for banned substances.

The Swiss based organisation made the shocking revelation following retests of urine samples using more advanced technology than was available at that time.

According to the GleanerCarter, the 2013 World Championships 100m bronze medal winner could now face a public reprimand or up to an 18-month suspension if the stimulant Methylexaneamine, which was found in his ‘A’ sample, is confirmed by his ‘B’ sample test results.

Carter was a part of Jamaica’s 4x100m relay team, which also included Michael Frater, Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell that recorded a then world record 37.10 seconds to win gold ahead of Trinidad and Tobago and Japan in Beijing.

Methylhexanamine (or Dimethylamylamine, DMAA) was added to the WADA prohibited list in 2010 as a stimulant.

Many dietary supplements contain Methylhexanamine, which goes by several names including: 1,3-dimethylamylamine (DMAA), dimethylpentylamine (DMP) 4-methylhexan-2-amine, Geranamine, and geranium oil, extract, or stems and leaves.
