2016 Release For Buju Banton?

Dancehall musician Buju Banton, real name Mark Anthony Myrie is currently serving a 10 year prison sentence in the United States.

His arrest in 2009 came after  accusations by United States authorities of taking part in the purchase and sale of cocaine.

He was captured on video tasting cocaine in a government-controlled warehouse in Tampa, Florida.

He was later imprisoned on drug charges in 2011 in the Sam Gibbons US District Court in Tampa and has been languishing in a federal facility, serving a 10 year sentence.

Now one major media outlet is reporting that the entertainer could be a free man in a matter of months.

According to Loop Jamaica, due to good behaviour, the Jamaican reggae superstar may have slashed about three years off his sentence as he was due to be released in 2019 but may see the sun by as early as September this year.

Banton is currently serving time in the McRae Correctional Institute in Georgia as inmate number 86700-004.
