Jamaican Woman is Now The World’s Second Oldest Person
A Jamaican woman is now the second-oldest verified living person in the world.
In early 2015, Viola Moss Brown was the sixth oldest person in the world, but she has outlived most of her elders to become the second oldest person alive.
She was born March 10th, 1900 and is therefore one of only a few people who can boast to have lived in a part of three centuries.
Brown is also the first verified supercentenarian from Jamaica and the oldest verified Jamaican person ever.
It’s kind of hard to fathom that she was born when Jamaica was a part of the British Empire and is the last living former subject of Queen Victoria.
She was one of four children born to John Mosse, a sugar boiler, and Elizabeth Riley, the latter of whom died aged 96. She was baptized at the age of 13.
She married Augustus Gaynor Brown, with whom she had one daughter.
