(VIDEO) Jamaican Football is On the Rise!

Jamaica’s national football team – the Reggae Boyz has accomplished many firsts in recent times.

The Boyz made history when they finished second to Mexico in the 2015 Gold Cup and their triumphs in that prestigious tournament marked the first time Jamaica has beaten two North American teams in a single Gold Cup tournament.( Canada and The United States.)

It also represented the first time Jamaica defeated the United States on their own soil. 🙂

Despite a recent 3-0 thrashing by Costa Rica in World Cup Qualifying, the sense of belief in Jamaican football is still perhaps at its highest since the Reggae Boyz qualified for World Cup 98.

Many still believe Jamaica is returning to form similar to the island’s glory days for football when the Reggae Boyz with the likes of Theodore Whitmore, Deon Burton, Walter Boyd, Ricardo ‘Bibi’ Gardener and others qualified for the nation’s first FIFA World Cup in France -98.

A recent short film by KICK titled Reggae Boyz on the Rise | Soccer Culture in Jamaica highlights some of the impressive strides the team has made in recent years and focuses on the cultural impact of the sport in Jamaica.
