Police Officers Suing Commissioner of Police, Attorney General

Over 30 police officers are suing the Attorney General and the Commissioner of Police, Dr. Carl Williams.

The officers are part of the JCF’s High Potential Detective Training 18-month programme, which began in February 2013.

Successful participants were informed they would  be promoted to the rank of Inspector after completing the programme.

However just prior their graduation, they received the unfortunate news that the programme was being extended for another six months due to the assessment being flawed.

That extension period ended in April of 2015 but they claim they still have not been given an update regarding when the course will end and they still have not been promoted even though they all passed the required courses with a score of 60-percent or higher.

Earlier this week the officers filed an application for judicial review and they want the court to declare that their rights have been breached.

They are also hoping the court will instruct the Police Commissioner to promote them to the rank of Inspector, and award damages for all the remuneration, allowances and benefits that would have been due since September 2014, when the programme was initially supposed to end.
