J Capri’s Funeral Service

The funeral service for the late Dancehall singjay J Capri is currently underway at the University of the West Indies (UWI) chapel in St. Andrew.

Many persons have gathered on the streets in the vicinity of the service to show their respect, and offer condolences.

Those individuals who will not be able to attend the service can view the proceedings online courtesy of a partnership between The Star and Digicel who joined forces to provide the live stream free of charge.

According to Loop News: The service is being officiated by Reverend Bosworth Mullings and Reverend Samuel McCook.

The life of the artiste, real name Jordan Phillips, has been described as “a comet blazing across the evening sky” by her aunt Karen Phillips in the funeral programme.

The programme also features a touching tribute from Capri’s mother, Oradale Carwin.

“The pigment of her skin holds the essence of her beauty. Radiating power, love and perseverance. She is bold. She is unique. We are sold the idea that her shade is unworthy of recognition and she stands and dares us to see her depth, her colour, her colour and all of its wonder,” Carwin is quoted as saying in the programme.
