Bolt Nominated For Another IAAF World Athlete of the Year Award

The world’s fastest man, Jamaica’s Usain St. Leo Bolt may soon receive another IAAF World Athlete of the Year Award.

The IAAF Athlete of the Year award is a prize that can be won by athletes participating in events within the sport of athletics organised by the International Athletic Foundation of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), including track and field, cross country running, road running, and racewalking.

Bolt has received the coveted award numerous times:- in the years 2006, 2008,2009,2011, 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Despite an injury plagued year, Bolt weathered the storm to earn impressive victories in the men’s 100m and 200m titles at the World Championships in Beijing, China.

  

Holland’s Dafne Schippers, the women’s 200m champion in the sprints category was also nominated.

Bolt and Schippers garnered the most votes in the sprints category in the first round of voting for the 2015 IAAF World Athlete of the Year award according to the IAAF.

The male and female World Athletes of the Year will be announced during a a special ceremony in Monaco at the IAAF World Athletics Gala on Saturday November, 28, 2015.

Other Jamaican athletes to have won the award are : Merlene Ottey(1990), Asafa Powell (2006), and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (2013).
