Coach Schaefer and Reggae Boyz Get Fines, Suspensions From FIFA

Jamaica’s head coach for the men’s national football team Winfried Schaefer, along with two players Upston Edwards and Lance Laing have been given hefty fines and suspensions for their behaviour during Jamaica’s return leg World Cup qualifier against Nicaragua.

According to Loop News, the two players were found guilty of using offensive language and gestures to the match officials while Schaefer was charged with displaying unsportsmanlike behaviour against the officials.

Both Laing and Edwards are suspended for four consecutive games in the World Cup qualifiers, while Schafer will have to watch the next two games from the stands and not from the traditional sidelines. All three were also fined US$5,150.

As a result of the ban, both players will miss Jamaica’s crucial encounters against Panama on November 13 in Jamaica; against Haiti on November 17 in Haiti; against Costa Rica on March 25, 2016 in Jamaica; and the return-leg against Costa Rica on March 29, 2016. Schaefer will miss the Panama and Haiti encounters.
