The Jamaican Government CANNOT Give the Roaring River Property to China! – Here’s Why:
China has petitioned the Government of Jamaica for parts or the whole of the 800 acre Roaring River Water Shed area in St. Ann (adjoining Dunns River) as payment on loans which the People of Jamaica had no say in!
These lands are sitting on one of Jamaica’s most important Limestone Plateaus and provide water for the Hydro Electric plant at Laughing Waters, Steer Town and Chalky Hill and other areas of St. Ann.
The Roaring River property also has immeasurable historical value as Marcus Garvey’s Grandfather and entire Family were enslaved there!
China aims to build on these lands (resort or China Town) and in so doing will upset the entire water system in the Rio Bueno Water Shed Management Unit! This will undoubtedly result in serious environmental problems for St. Ann and Jamaica and seriously disrupt the ability of the Government to provide adequate water supply to thousands of Jamaican citizens!
The UCLA Garvey Papers, Volume 1: 1826 – August 1919 gives detailed information on Marcus Garvey’s Grandfather and entire Family who were enslaved on the Roaring River Property!
This “new’ information (which is not so new) is part of the UCLA Marcus Garvey and UNIA Papers Project, led by Prof. Robert Hill.

The Roaring River deal is a travesty to the Jamaican people; past, present and future. Its safe to assume that this will be just like other “clear as mud deals” the Government seemed to have forged with the Chinese. I suspect the deal may already be done…let’s be clear, I don’t blame the Chinese, I blame “US” – the Government and the People who only object on their patios.

This is insane why are we selling out our birthright. The government must be held accountable, this is unacceptable.
This is what the government always does, because the Jamaican People at home and abroad seem to be afraid to organise and protest against such heinous acts perpetrated by the politicians upon the people. The Goat Islands are a classic example. I’ll always maintain that the government of Jamaica cares not one iota for the people and the country. Their sole aim is to get rich quick by selling out the country to foreigners, especially the Chinese.
The present government don’t give a shit about Jamaica or Jamaicans. You all keep voting them in for hand outs, where you think the hand outs are coming from? No body want to work especially the men. China doesn’t care about environment, look at what they are doing in the south China Sea.

I am truly seething with anger .Every time I look around,the country becomes less of a unified state ,morally,socially ,economically and also geographically.Its hurts so much to know so many places are no longer nationally owned . The answer to our problem lies in the hands of the ‘commom’ man believe it or not..and that can be determined at the ballot.Political incumbents must express their allegiance to the country and so be held accountable for the decisions they make behind close doors….Forums like this , must move beyond mere popular comments and feedbacks made here…someone has to take the lead… Read more »
