Jamaican Student Tops the Caribbean in Agricultural Science

It’s always great to see our Jamaican students excel.

Students and staff alike from the Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland-based Manning’s School must now be jubilant after one of their own was recently named  the top student in the Caribbean in Agriculture Science in the 2014 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate Examinations.

According to the Gleaner, 18-year old Taylor Mckenzie, a lower sixth-form student sat and passed nine CSEC subjects last year,  namely: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics English Language, Information, Technology, Principles of Accounts, and Office Administration.

She previously sat Human and social biology in 2013 and earned a distinction in that subject.

McKenzie is slated to sit five subjects – Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Communication Studies, and Environmental Science in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations this year.

Though the intelligent young lady has a strong love for agriculture, she hopes to become a medical doctor and an entrepreneur.

“I would like to pursue a career in medicine and at the same time create an agricultural business steeped in crop production and manufacturing, so we would be looking at canning and bottling products to satisfy local demand and export as well. I have not ruled out veterinary medicine, so it could be a factor,” explained McKenzie.
