Jamaica’s 17-year-old breakout sensation Samantha J has inked a major record deal with Columbia Records. The recording label has signed some of the most successful entertainers to date including, Adele, Beyonce, Celine Dion, John Legend and many others.
Samantha who gained popularity for “Tight Up Skirt” is currently on a promotional trip in North America. Efforts by Music News to get a comment proved futile.
Nonetheless, according to TMZ who claims to have a copy of the contractual agreement, “if Samantha J sticks with Columbia through her 6th album — she’ll collect an advance of up to a $1.1 million US!”
Columbia Records, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment, has had a number of Jamaican acts on its roster over the years including Ini Kamoze, Mad Cobra, Tony Rebel and others.
