Bolt Contender for Athlete of the Year
Sprint phenom Usain Bolt is among three athletes who still have a chance to earn the IAAF’s prestigious World Athlete of the Year award. This was announced by the IAAF this morning, where it was revealed that the finalists were selected after a month-long poll by the World Athletics Family.
Bolt is currently seeking his 5th Athlete of the Year award, and will be challenged by 5,000m and 10,000 world champion Mo Farah and world high jump champion and Diamond Race winner Bohdan Bondarenko.
He has won three gold medals for sprints at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow this year in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m.
The names of three women’s finalists will be released tomorrow. Winners of the award will be revealed at the 2013 World Athletics Gala on Saturday, November 16, 2013.
Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is expected to be included in the list for females.
