Lauryn Hill
Grammy winning singer Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three months in prison for failing to pay about $1 million in taxes. She was also sentenced in Newark to three additional months of home confinement. The 37 years old South Orange resident pleaded guilty last year in the case.
During a forceful statement to the judge, Hill explained she had always meant to eventually pay the taxes but was unable to during a period of time when she dropped out of the music business. Before the sentencing, her attorney had said Hill had paid more than $970,000 to satisfy the state and federal tax liabilities. Hill had faced a maximum sentence of one year each on three counts. Her attorney had sought probation. She’s to report to prison July 8. It’s not clear where she’ll serve her sentence.
Flippa Moggela
Flippa Moggela has walked away scratch free but with a dent to his Porsche following a fender-bender in Kingston recently. Flippa who is thankful that the accident wasn’t serious, said in a release that he has already done an estimate to have his Porsche sorted out in a few days
Wee Pow
Courtney Mac understands that Stone Love Sound System owner Winston Powell aka Wee Pow was hospitalized recently after a motor vehicle accident in the early hours of this morning. It is understood that Wee Pow has broken his right leg, and suffered a few minor cuts and bruises. The sound system owner’s F150 was also badly damaged in the accident. It is reported that he sustained the injuries while trying to save a dog’s life. Sources say he was heading home after leaving a party, swerved to avoid hitting a dog when he crashed into a wall in the Waterhouse area.

Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey fired fellow American Idol judge Randy Jackson from his position as her manager. Though neither camp has released an official statement about the split, it was amicable, but necessary due to their “hectic” schedules, Jackson, who met Carey in the ’90s, when he was VP of A&R for Columbia Records, signed on as the diva’s manager in 2011. Prior to that, he had produced, co-written and played bass for many of Carey’s albums, As her manager, he helped to broker her record-breaking deal with American Idol to the tune of $18 million. Carey’s now working with Red Light Management, which also reps Alicia Keys, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
