Britain’s Only Female Prime Minister Dies at 87

Margaret Thatcher,  the former Prime Minister of England died earlier today after suffering a stroke according to her spokeswoman.

She led the Conservative Party to victory in 1979 to become the first and only female Prime Minister of England.

A stroke in 2002 forced her to rescind her appearances from the public eye. She was rarely spotted in  the public in her final months, missing many important and highly regarded receptions. 

In December 2012, she was hospitalized after a procedure to remove a growth in her bladder.

  

Thatcher served as Prime Minister between 1979 to 1990.. She was called the “Iron Lady” for her personal and political toughness.
