World champs West Indies cruise to easy Victory over Zimbabwe

Reigning world champions West Indies on Saturday romped to a comfortable 8 wickets win over Zimbabwe with 23 balls to spare to take a 1-0 lead in the two match T20I series at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

Man of The Match Lendl Simmons blasted a whirlwind 63 from just 49 balls cracking 6 sixes and a lone four to set up the victory.

He shared in an unbroken 3rd wicket partnership of 85 with Dwayne Bravo who hammered 38 off 30 balls hitting 3 fours and one six.

Johnson Charles had earlier hit 6 fours on his way to 26 from 14 balls, while Darren Bravo went without scoring, before the Windies triumphed at 131 for 2.

  

The visitors had earlier posted a subpar total of 130 for 8 from their 20 overs. Malcolm Walker got most runs for the visitors, 49 from 34 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Craig Irvine 24 and Vusi Sibanda 13, were the only other batsmen to get to double figures.

The second and final game in the series will be played at the same venue on Sunday.
