Olympian Elaine Thompson Returns to the Island Today

Jamaica’s Olympic sprint double gold medallist Elaine Thompson along with five other MVP track and field athletes are to arrive on the island today.

At the recently concluded Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, Thompson earned gold medals in the women’s 100 and 200m events and a silver medal as a part of Jamaica’s women’s 4x100m relay team.

Following her Olympic triumphs, Thompson added another gold medal to her burgeoning tally after she posted a new Diamond League record of 21.85 seconds seconds to win the women’s 200m at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Zurich on September 1.

Just a week later,  the star sprinter beat the electrifying Dutch athlete Dafne Schippers over 100m to earn another gold medal at the last Diamond League meeting of the 2016 season in Brussels.

The group of athletes is reportedly scheduled to arrive at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston this afternoon (September 13).

A welcome ceremony has been organised for Thompson and her team-mates: Christania Williams, Shericka Jackson, Stephanie -Ann McPherson, Megan Simmons and Julian Forte.

Stephen Francis, head coach of MVP is also expected to be among the delegation arriving today.
