Asafa Powell earns his first win of 2014!
According to a report by Loop Jamaica, Asafa Powell clocked his fastest time since his return to competition in June, with a 10.02-second sprint to win in Brazil today.
The former world record holder took the race at the Grande Premio Brasil Caixa Governo do Pará Belém over Americans Marvin Bracy (10.14) and Dentarius Locke (10.17).
This was only Powell’s third race since returning from an 18-month suspension imposed by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel on April 10, a sanction that was drastically reduced by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in June. Powell, who has more than 80 sub-
ten times over the 100 metres, more than anyone else in history, will be striving to break the barrier in his next race.
Also at the meet, Antoine Adams of St. Kitts won the 200 metres in 20.79, beating Maurice Mitchell of the United States who stopped the clock in 20.93. Adams was fifth in the 100 metres in 10.25.
Damar Forbes’ relatively poor form in the long jump continued this season as he was fourth with a leap of 7.55 metres in the event won by Brazil’s Mauro Vinicius da Silva whose best jump measured 7.74 metres.
