Jamaica breaks Commonwealth 4x100m record with blazing Anchor Leg run by Usain Bolt! (Video)

Jamaica’s athletes secured another three gold medals as track and field activities came to a close at the 20^th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland yesterday.

Global superstar Usain Bolt added the Commonwealth Games gold to his array of medals when he anchored the Jamaican team to victory in the men’s 4x100m relay to hand Jamaica its 21^st medal of the Games.

The team which also included Jason Livermore, Kemar Bailey-Cole the individual 100m gold  medallist and  Nickel Ashmeade, won in a Commonwealth Games record 37.58 seconds, finishing ahead of England 38.02 with bronze going to Antigua in 38.10 seconds.

The feats of Bolt and co. were matched by both the women’s sprint relay and the women’s 4x400m relay teams.

The sprint relay quartet of Kerron Stewart, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Schillonie Calvert and Shelly-Ann Frasier-Pryce, smashed the championship record after posting 41.83 seconds to take the gold medal ahead of Nigeria (42.92) and England (43.10).

In the women’s mile relay final, Christine Day, Novlene Williams-Mills, Anastacia Le-Roy and Stephanie McPherson also captured the gold medal clocking 3:23.82 to set another championship record.

There was no medal however for the men’s 4x400m team of Akeem Gauntlett, Edino Steel, Chumaine Fitten and Rusheen McDonald who finished 4^th in 3:02.17 behind England, Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago.

Action off the track saw Daniel Lewis and Damon McLean both failing to medal in the men’s triple jump final. Lewis was only good enough for 7^th with a best effort of 16.09m, while McLean was 8^th at 15.83m.

Jamaica now enters the final day of the Commonwealth Games with an overall 21 medals – 10 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze.

Another bronze medal could be added on Sunday when the Sunshine Girls face-off with England in the  third place match in the netball championships.

It follows Jamaica’s 57-42 semi-final loss to Australia who now meet New Zealand in the final.

Jhanielle Fowler-Reid topped the scoring for Jamaica with 32 from 37 attempts while Shanice Beckford got 10 from her 13 attempts.
