Jamaica set to decriminalise marijuana!

There is a strong possibility that Jamaica will become the first English speaking Caribbean country to decriminalise marijuana.

According to a  press statement yesterday, Phillip Paulwell who is the minister of science, technology, energy and mining, stated at a meeting last Thursday that “ganja will be decriminalised in Jamaica this year and emphasised that Jamaica cannot be allowed to be left behind on the issue”.

“He also reiterated the multiple economic, social and cultural benefits that Jamaica stands to gain if the laws are adjusted sooner rather than later,”  according to taskforce leader Delano Seiveright.

Seiveright also  said the meeting held at the PCJ Auditorium in Kingston had agreed to the formal launch of the Future Ganja Growers Association next month to spearhead the establishment of a local ganja industry, which advocates swear will pump billions of dollars into the Jamaican economy.

Do you think the potential benefits of decriminalizing marijuana outweigh the possible negative effects it can have on the nation? Please let us know in the comments.
