Jamaica’s Glen Johnson wins World Boxing Union Cruiserweight title

Former world Light Heavyweight champion Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson came up with a big performance on Wednesday night to score a one-sided 8th round unanimous decision over Bobby Gunn at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

This to lift the vacant WBU Cruiserweight title in what was his first contest in the 200 pound category.

The aggressive 44 year old 2004 Ring Magazine Fighter of The Year   overwhelmed the 39 year old Gunn to leave the judges all scoring the bout at 80-72.

The first round showed a feeling out process.  Johnson was able to dictate the pace around the ring pushing forward while Gunn was backing up but landed more punches.  The second was much like the first.

Johnson however started to come on in the third round and landed quite a few power shots. The Road Warrior kept up in the fourth round and controlled the pace throughout the rest of the fight.

After eight solid rounds of boxing action the judges scorecards read 80-72 across the board for your winner, via unanimous decision, Glen Johnson (53-18-2, 36KOs).

After the scorecards were read Bobby Gunn (21-6-1, 18KOs) announced his retirement and thanked Glen for letting him fight a legend in front of his son for his last fight.
