Usain Bolt Pops the Question to Kasi Bennett in Kingston

Kasi Bennett had spent the days leading up to Usain Bolt’s 40th birthday celebrating the retired sprint legend and the family they have built together, unaware that plans were also under way to make the occasion memorable for her.

The couple, who have three children, are now engaged after Bolt proposed during his birthday celebration at One Belmont in Kingston, Jamaica.

Bennett later shared glimpses of the occasion on Instagram, including footage of herself dancing while displaying her engagement ring and images showing her becoming emotional as she celebrated with family and friends.

Bolt presented Bennett with a five-carat, oval-shaped diamond ring. The former athlete, dressed in a checkered suit, made the proposal while holding a microphone before getting down on one knee. Bennett, wearing a gold dress decorated with silver sequins, appeared stunned by the moment.

After accepting the proposal, Bennett and Bolt embraced as those gathered for the celebration looked on.

Reacting later on Instagram, Bennett drew attention to her shocked expression in a photograph from the proposal, joking that the image captured how she had reacted that night.

A message Bennett reposted from her friend Nikolette Williams revealed that while considerable planning had gone into Bolt’s 40th birthday celebration, preparations for the surprise proposal had also been taking place without Bennett knowing. Williams expressed her affection for the couple and said she was grateful to regard them as family.

The engagement comes after more than a decade together. Bolt and Bennett began their relationship in 2013, although they did not publicly confirm their romance until the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

They are parents to six-year-old daughter Olympia Lightning Bolt and five-year-old twin sons Thunder Bolt and Saint Leo Bolt.

Before Friday’s celebration, Bennett marked Bolt’s milestone birthday with a collection of photographs on Instagram, along with a video featuring the former sprinter and their children. She described Bolt as her person, home and forever, praised him as a father and said the man behind his extraordinary sporting legacy was what made her proudest.

Bolt’s final Olympic appearance came at those 2016 Rio Games, where he completed what became known as the historic triple-triple by winning the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4×100-metre relay.

He ran 9.81 seconds in the Rio 100-metre final. Bolt also remains the holder of the men’s 100-metre world record of 9.58 seconds and the Olympic record of 9.63 seconds, which he established in London in 2012.
