Chicago Bulls Land Jamaican Star Norman Powell in US$45M Deal

The Chicago Bulls have strengthened their backcourt by adding proven scorer Norman Powell, whose arrival follows the most productive season of his NBA career after averaging 21.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
The Jamaican international also earned his first NBA All-Star selection during that standout campaign.
The agreement will see Powell join Chicago on a two-year contract worth US$45 million, with the second season carrying a team option. League sources confirmed the deal yesterday.
Chicago’s front office completed negotiations with Powell’s representatives, Jason Glushon and Khalid McCaskill of Glushon Sports Management, as the franchise continues its efforts to bolster its roster with experienced talent capable of boosting its offensive production and providing veteran leadership.
Although Powell most recently starred with the Miami Heat, much of his NBA foundation was built with the Toronto Raptors after entering the league from the University of California, Los Angeles.
He spent more than five seasons in Toronto, developing into an important postseason contributor while averaging 9.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists during that stint.
His biggest success with the Raptors came in 2019 when he played a role in helping the franchise capture its first NBA championship, a title that remains the only one in the club’s history.
