Question:

I’m going on a Valentine’s Day dinner date with a cute guy that I’ve only ever had chats with in a bar.

I need some urgent advice. Should I give him a card and gift at the restaurant? What should I wear as it’s a mid-range place? Do I offer to pay half of the bill?

Love Doctor’s Answer:

Fantastic news that love could be in the air for you on the most romantic day of the year, which could lead to a meaningful relationship.

If you know where he lives or works then you should send him a Valentine’s Day card and gift. Otherwise you have little choice but to take these along for your hot date.

You should only include a confident kiss in the card for it to be mysterious, which is traditional, along with some of your signature scent on the back of the envelope.

Best to refer to my Top 10 Valentine’s Day Gifts, and stick within your budget for the present you pick out for your love interest.

You have to consider that although you are going to a restaurant for an intimate meal, he’s highly likely to want to go a romantic walk when he intends to kiss you.

That means you should dress appropriately for a potential stroll under the moonlight by blending comfort with style. Block heels, boots or strappy sandals are ideal.

Being Valentine’s Day you will ultimately be aiming for accessories or an outfit that boasts romantic red and/or pastel pink, maybe with hearts.

A chic, classic dress in rose red will add the wow factor. However, other ladies being wined and dined are likely to have the same idea.

You wish to stand out from the crowd and grab his attention, so may wish to opt for an elegant floral dress to show your feminine charms.

As this is your first date, and you refer to the venue as mid-range, you may prefer to wear a skirt or tailored trousers with a blouse or top in red/pink tones.

Ideally opt for a statement clutch bag and jewellery, without overdoing the bling. Pick a light but sensual scent, which won’t overpower your eating experience, although a citrus perfume will ignite his sexual senses.

Alternatively, you could scour the internet and magazines by checking out some celebrity-inspired Valentine’s Day outfits to see what you like — and that you potentially possess.

If he invited you on this dinner date, then it’s his duty as a gentleman to pay the bill. Yet if you initiated the rendezvous, or it was a collective idea, the onus is on you to offer to pay half.

Yet it’s highly likely that he will settle the entire bill, so to look good I urge you to take some cash and offer to pay the tip.

On your date it is fine for you to do most of the talking, but please don’t quiz him too much as it’s not an interview.

Relax, enjoy and make this a memorable romantic experience for both of you by flirting and more by following my Valentine’s Day tips.
