Reggae Boy Bailey Returns with Assist in Roma Cup Exit

Leon Bailey marked his return to the starting lineup with a second-half assist, but the effort was not enough as Roma were edged 3-2 by Torino in their Coppa Italia round of 16 clash in Italy.

Coming on after the break, the Reggae Boy set up a goal in the 46th minute during his first appearance in the playing eleven following an injury-hit spell.

Despite the Jamaican winger’s contribution, Roma were unable to overturn the deficit and exited the competition at the knockout stage.

Having struggled with fitness issues since arriving in the Italian capital, Bailey has seen his involvement limited after joining Roma on loan from Aston Villa at the beginning of the season.

Sunday’s outing represented a step forward for the attacker, who logged 80 minutes after recently missing four Serie A fixtures.

Across his most recent five appearances, the 26-year-old has recorded one assist while also registering three attempts at goal, two of which tested the goalkeeper.

Additional attacking output has seen him produce two key passes and deliver three crosses during that stretch.

On the international front, Bailey has earned a place in the Reggae Boyz provisional squad ahead of the FIFA Intercontinental Playoffs scheduled for March in Mexico.

Jamaica are set to take on New Caledonia in their opening encounter, with progression securing a meeting against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Success in that decisive matchup would seal qualification for the FIFA World Cup, which is slated for June in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
