Sizzla to Receive Keys to Lauderhill
Reggae icon Sizzla Kalonji will be honoured with the Keys to the City of Lauderhill, Florida, during a special ceremony on Sunday, August 3.
The presentation will take place at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center as part of celebrations marking Jamaica’s 63rd Independence.
The award, which represents the highest civic honour in the United States, recognises Sizzla’s three-decade contribution to reggae music and Rastafarian culture.
Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the genre, his discography includes anthems such as Solid as a Rock and Thank You Mama, known for their messages of empowerment and spiritual strength.
Leading the initiative is Mayor Denise D. Grant, a Jamaican-American native of Christiana, Manchester, who described the moment as a milestone for both the diaspora and global reggae culture.
Lauderhill, known for its strong Jamaican community, will use the occasion to acknowledge Sizzla’s impact on music and cultural identity worldwide.
Sizzla will headline the Independence celebration with a performance showcasing highlights from his legendary catalogue. Joining the lineup are Etana, Admiral Tibet, Lady G, Hal Anthony, and music selector Foota Hype.
The tribute in Florida is just the beginning, with a major event scheduled for October 19 at Sabina Park in Kingston. That gathering is expected to draw fans, artistes, and cultural figures from around the world to honour Sizzla’s enduring legacy.
