Green Light for United Oil & Gas to Begin Offshore Surveys in Jamaica

Formal approval has been granted to United Oil & Gas by the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) to begin conducting offshore surveys within its Walton Morant licence area.

Confirmation of the environmental permit was announced by the company on Thursday, noting that while it had appeared on NEPA’s website last month, it is now officially in their possession and carries a five-year validity.

Under the permit’s terms, United Oil & Gas is authorised to carry out several non-invasive studies, including geotechnical, bathymetric, and environmental baseline surveys aimed at evaluating Jamaica’s offshore energy potential.

The company indicated that these surveys represent a significant part of preparations for advancing to future stages of oil and gas exploration.

Although not mandatory for any upcoming farmout agreements, the data collected from these studies will enhance the technical groundwork already in progress.

Chief Executive Officer Brian Larkin highlighted that the permit marks a major milestone, with a Beach Licence anticipated soon to further boost their momentum.

Currently holding full ownership of the Walton Morant licence, United Oil & Gas considers the area to hold considerable promise, with comparisons drawn to prolific oil-producing regions such as Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.
