Public Sector Workers to Receive 7.5% Basic Salary Increase
Public sector workers are set to receive a 7.5 per cent increase in their basic salary, according to Finance Minister Fayval Williams.
The increase stems from the movement of up to three increments in the substantive salary scales for public sector employees.
This marks a shift from the previous approach before the comprehensive salary reform of 2022, when only one increment was granted annually and was contingent on achieving a 75 per cent or higher score under the Performance Management and Appraisal System (PMAS).
Minister Williams says the decision to allow up to three increments in the 2025/26 fiscal year follows discussions with the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU).
Some ministries, departments, and agencies have already issued the payments, while others are working to complete the process by the end of the month.
She described the adjustment as part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen the remuneration framework in a manner that is both fair and fiscally sustainable.
Williams also noted that while the increase has been agreed on, the Ministry is still examining how best to evaluate performance.
She stressed that the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service remains committed to ongoing engagement with unions and associations to further refine the public sector compensation structure.
