West Ham Offer Antonio Lifeline Following 2024 Car Crash
Michail Antonio has been offered a short-term contract extension on reduced wages by West Ham United as he continues his recovery from a serious car accident that occurred in December 2024.
The 35-year-old forward, a key figure for the club over the past decade, is currently undergoing rehabilitation after suffering a broken leg and other injuries that ended his 2024/25 campaign prematurely.
Antonio joined West Ham in 2015 from Nottingham Forest for £7 million and has since become one of the club’s most consistent performers.
Over the years, he has racked up 83 goals and 33 assists in 323 appearances, cementing his place as a fan favourite and a significant contributor to the team’s success.
The offer extended by the club includes no guarantees, and with reports indicating he has other options, Antonio is weighing his next move carefully.
West Ham manager Graham Potter has described the situation as complex, acknowledging both the player’s value and the uncertainty surrounding his future.
Antonio is also being closely monitored by the Jamaican national team. Head coach Steve McClaren has named him in the provisional squad for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup and hopes to have him available for the Unity Cup and the start of Jamaica’s 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Antonio is reportedly targeting a return to action in time for West Ham’s final match of the season.
