Portmore Set to Receive Modern Transportation Centre
A proposal to amend the contract for the Portmore Resilience Park in St. Catherine has been accepted, paving the way for work to begin on a new transportation centre beside it.
Transport Minister Daryl Vaz presented the plan for a phased approach to the project during a tour of the park with Prime Minister Andrew Holness yesterday.
The park’s construction remains on schedule for completion by the end of this year.
Vaz explained that the contract variation will accelerate work on the transportation centre by avoiding delays associated with new contract negotiations and procurement processes.
The new facility, to be developed on five acres of land next to the resilience park, will replace the existing lay-by, which lacks essential amenities such as shelter and bathrooms.
With the proposal now approved, the Urban Development Corporation, which owns the land, will collaborate with the ministries of transport and economic growth and job creation to move the project forward.
