Ninety-seven percent of Jamaica Public Service (JPS) customers across the island are expected to have full power restoration by Saturday, July 13.

However, this projection excludes customers in St. Elizabeth.

As of yesterday, JPS had not restored power to any part of St. Elizabeth due to the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Beryl last week.

During a press briefing, JPS mentioned that efforts are underway to restore power to the Black River Hospital.

Energy Minister Daryl Vaz emphasized the importance of restoring power in St. Elizabeth.

He also noted that several parishes, including St. Ann, St. James, Trelawny, and St. Mary, are expected to be near full restoration before Saturday. Areas facing greater challenges should see power restored gradually, with a target date of August 5 at the latest.

Minister Vaz stated that JPS has requested until Friday to complete assessments in St. Elizabeth to determine if external assistance is needed to expedite the process.

He assured that the government has made arrangements to provide support if JPS requires it.
