West Indies Clinch T20 Series With 16 Run Win Over South Africa
On Saturday the Windies secured a series win against South Africa with a 16-run victory in the second T20 International.
With this win, the Caribbean side takes an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Roston Chase, who was named Man of the Match, smashed an unbeaten 67 runs off just 38 balls.
His innings was punctuated by seven boundaries and two towering sixes, propelling the West Indies to a formidable total of 207 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Interim captain Brandon King provided solid support with a valuable 36 runs, while wicketkeeper Andre Fletcher added a brisk 29.
Despite the efforts of South African bowlers Lungi Ngidi, Nqaba Peter, and Andile Phehlukwayo, who each claimed two wickets, the West Indies set a challenging target for the visitors.
In response, South Africa started strongly and looked poised for a successful chase at 113 for 3.
Quinton de Kock blazed his way to 41 off just 17 balls, and opener Reeza Hendricks contributed a steady 34. Captain Rassie van der Dussen added 30, keeping South Africa in the hunt.
However, the West Indies bowlers turned the tide, with Gudakesh Motie emerging as the chief architect of South Africa’s downfall.
Motie’s impressive spell saw him take 3 wickets for 22 runs, while Romario Shepherd and Roston Chase chipped in with a wicket each. T
The South African innings ultimately fell short, ending at 191 for 7 from their 20 overs.
