Reggae Boy Deshane Beckford Signs for Hartford Athletic
Hartford Athletic has secured a major coup ahead of the upcoming 2024 USL Championship season with the signing of Jamaican forward Deshane Beckford, pending league and federation approval.
The seasoned winger is fresh from a productive stint with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in 2023.
“I am happy to reunite with Coach Burke and be part of the project in Hartford,” Beckford remarked.
“This is one of the most passionate fan bases in the entire league, and I’m glad to have them cheering me on and supporting me this season.
I am also looking forward to integrating myself into Hartford’s large Jamaican community, something that I’m sure will make me feel right at home in my new city.”
Beckford, boasting an impressive track record in the USL Championship, is set to embark on his sixth season in the league.
His dynamic performances as a winger for Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the previous season showcased his abilities, making 32 appearances, 22 starts, and contributing significantly to the team’s attacking efforts.
Known for his speed on the ball and proficiency on the counter-attack, Beckford created 28 chances, led the team in crosses with 72, and scored two goals while providing four assists.
Head Coach and General Manager Brendan Burke expressed his excitement about the new addition, stating, “We are very excited to bring Deshane to Hartford. He is an excellent winger with great pace on the ball, and is especially dangerous on the counter attack. He does a great job to put pressure on the opposition with his effort on defense as well. Our fans are really going to enjoy cheering on DeShane this season.”
Hailing from Montego Bay, Jamaica, Beckford has not only made a mark in the USL Championship but has also represented his country on the international stage, earning four caps.
His debut for the Jamaican senior team in a friendly against Peru in 2022 was a significant milestone, following his standout performance for the U23 Reggae Boyz at the 2019 Pan American Games, where he scored three goals in three matches.
