Canada Shuts Out Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz 2-0 in First Leg of Concacaf Olympic Playoff

Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz, suffered a 2-0 defeat against the reigning Olympic champion Canada at the National Stadium on Friday night.

Canada, eager to bounce back from a disappointing World Cup campaign, showed glimpses of their technical ability early in the match.

Nichelle Prince put the visitors in the lead with a well-timed strike in the 18th minute, setting the tone for the evening.

Despite the Reggae Girlz’ spirited efforts, they struggled to find an equaliser against the formidable Canadian defense.

As the game entered stoppage time, Adriana Leon, celebrating her 100th cap, delivered the final blow, securing Canada’s victory with her 30th career goal, courtesy of a precise pass from Gabby Carle.

The series now shifts to Toronto’s BMO Field, where Canada will host the second leg of the playoff.

The sold-out event on Tuesday promises to be another intense showdown, as both teams vie for the coveted spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Additionally, the winner will secure an automatic qualification spot in the inaugural Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup, scheduled to take place in the USA from February 17 to March 10, 2024.
