Shericka Jackson Takes Third Place in London After Gruelling Racing Schedule

Shericka Jackson’s grueling schedule of four races over eight days in four countries seemed to take a toll on her performance as she finished third in the women’s 100m at the London Diamond League meeting on Sunday.

Despite being one of the top contenders this season, Jackson clocked 10.94 seconds (1.2m/s), marking only the second time she failed to finish in the top two in any race this year.

Her busy schedule included competing in both sprints at the Jamaican championships from July 6-9, followed by the 100m at the Diamond League meeting in Poland on July 16, the 200m races in Hungary on July 18, and in Monaco on July 21 prior to Sunday’s race.

The women’s 100m race showcased eight women who registered sub 11 times this season and was expected to witness another showdown between Jackson and world number two Sha’Carri Richardson. However, Richardson withdrew from the race due to slight hamstring issues during warm-up.

In the race, Jackson had to settle for third place behind Marie-Josee Ta Lou, who won with a season best-equalling time of 10.75, and Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, who secured second place with her season’s best of 10.85.

Despite her performance in the 100m, Jackson wasn’t the only Jamaican athlete facing tough competition on Sunday.

Natoya Goule-Toppin and Janieve Russell also secured second-place finishes in their respective events, while Olympic champion Hansle Parchment finished fourth.
