Former PNP Senator Delano Franklyn Is Dead
Delano Franklyn, former senator for the People’s National Party (PNP), has passed away after a period of illness.
In September of last year, Franklyn was hospitalised at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) and there was an urgent call for blood donations, with the general secretary of the PNP, Dr Dayton Campbell, saying he needed up to 10 units a day.
Franklyn was a respected member of the PNP and was 63 years old.
He had previously held the position of Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In addition to his political career, Franklyn was a successful businessman and attorney, serving as the managing partner of the law firm, Wilson & Franklyn, which was established in 1998.
Franklyn received his secondary education at Kingston College and further education at Mico Teachers College (now Mico University College), the University of the West Indies, and Norman Manley Law School.
In 2016, he shared publicly that he was hospitalised with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) after being infected with the Zika virus and spoke about his struggles with the disease, which weakens muscles due to damage to the peripheral nervous system caused by the immune system.
