The Show Must Go On For Legendary Reggae Sunsplash
Reggae Sunsplash, Jamaica’s globally recognised music festival since making a 1978 debut, will go ahead virtually on 27-28 November.
The show, which in the past has featured such legendary Jamaican icons as Bob Marley and Freddie McGregor, will this year be making its third comeback.
Jarrett Park in Montego Bay was the inaugural setting for the local reggae music festival, which was first revived 14 years ago at Richmond Estate in Priory, St. Ann. The two-night event, hosted by the digital company I-create, will include a special tribute in honour of Kingston’s late “Crown Prince of Reggae” Dennis Brown who died last year aged 42.
Acts due to take to the stage for Reggae Sunsplash include Agent Sasco, Barrington Levy, Capleton, Masicka and Romain Virgo.
Tyrone Wilson, the director of the event, released a statement that read: “This is a historical and iconic brand that helped to birth Jamaica’s music festival economy.
“Through this unique performance package, we hope that fans of Reggae Sunsplash all over the world will be able to enjoy.”
Reggae Sumfest, the successor to Reggae Sunsplash, was forced to go virtual in July because of the coronavirus crisis.
The Reggae Sunsplash virtual show is not only attracting attention from music fans but organisers of festivals.
Organisers of Rebel Salute, the annual reggae festival that took place for a 27th time earlier this year at Grizzly’s Plantation Cove in St. Ann, will be keeping a close eye on how the Reggae Sunsplash show unfolds as they prepare for their January 2021 event.
This year’s virtual Reggae Sunsplash will be streamed on YouTube as well as the social media platforms of Facebook and Instagram.
