PNP Aiming To Have New President By End Of Year
Following a massive defeat at the polls earlier this month, the People’s National Party (PNP) is now aiming to have a new president by the end of the year.
While speaking on Radio Jamaica’s Beyond the Headlines on Tuesday, Fitz Jackson, the Chairman of the PNP stated that Dr Peter Phillips, the current PNP President, will step aside as soon as the party selects a new president.
He added that the selection is expected to take place prior to the end of the year.
The PNP has for some time been heavily criticised by many for not pushing younger faces to the forefront of their party.
That coupled with the apparent disunity within the parity only served to further diminish their support from the populace.
If no consensus candidate emerges, the party will consider holding the presidential election at venues across all six of the party’s regions in light of the need to avoid large gatherings amid the COVID-pandemic.
